How to Subscribe to an Apple Music Playlist
To subscribe to a friend’s playlist, simply ask them for a link to it using one of the sharing methods described previously. These links will launch the Music app on iOS and macOS, or iTunes on Windows, depending on your device. You may subscribe by opening a playlist and tapping theAddbutton to add it to your library, where it will get automatic updates going forward. All of your playlists, including those you’ve made and those you’ve subscribed to, are grouped together in a single list underLibraryPlaylists on iOS devices and in the sidebar on desktop computers and laptops.
How to Discover New Playlists in Apple Music
To receive suggestions based on your listening behavior, go to theListen Nowtab on any platform and choose “Listen Now.” Among the automatic-generated playlists is a Favorites Mix, which is comprised of your favorite songs from the past, a New Music Mix, which is comprised of your favorite songs from the present, and playlists based on the genres you listen to the most. Each of these playlists will be updated on a regular basis as new music is released and your listening preferences change. You’ll also find some more generic (but selected) playlist recommendations on this page, such as Artist Spotlight Playlists and a list of new releases that are related to your collection.
The fact that you enjoy or dislike a suggested playlist will be taken into consideration by Apple Music, which will use your feedback to improve future suggestions.
This may be accomplished by locating the music on which you would like your playlist to be built.
As you listen to songs from your collection and from the larger Apple Music library, comparable music will be automatically queued up, allowing you to hear more of the songs you already know and discover new ones.
Don’t Forget to Search for Playlists Too
Was it ever brought to your attention that Apple Music is curated by humans? While there is a strong emphasis on providing predictive choices based on your listening habits, there is also a staff of curators that are constantly updating and producing playlists for your enjoyment. If you’re looking for anything specific, just search.
Try looking for a specific genre, a band or producer, an album, or even a specific mood or activity on the internet. The suggested playlists may be found by scrolling down in your search results. Here are a few good instances that we’ve come across:
- Headspace is a collection of electronic, acoustic, and ambient music that may be used to increase productivity and maintain concentration. Vaporwave Essentials: A succinct introduction to a genre that serves as a jumping off point for further musical exploration
- Grind Your Core: This playlist has some of the most violent music ever recorded, and it may be just what you need to kickstart your new workout program at the gym. How to create smart playlists in Apple Music on iOS (finally)
Let’s get this done. Photograph courtesy of Charlie Sorrel/Cult of Mac Directly from the iPhone, it is not feasible to make intelligent Apple Music playlists. Or, to put it another way, it was impossible. The previous method required opening iTunes on your Mac or PC, creating a smart playlist in the program, then allowing that smart playlist to sync to your iPhone over iCloud. This is still the case even with iOS 13, according to Apple. However, there is now another option. Using a new iOS software called Miximum, you can construct intelligent playlists that can be synced with the usual Apple Music app.
Miximum is the creation of developer Mike Clay, who is also the creator of the minimalCs Music Player (an app with a really excellent name). Miximum creates intelligent playlists and allows you to save and play them at your leisure. In fact, it’s a fairly fine music player in its own right, but if you prefer, you can export these playlists to the Apple Music app and play them directly from there instead. It’s important to note that after a playlist has been saved to the Music app, it is no longer considered smart.
If, on the other hand, you utilize Miximum to play your music, you will be able to benefit from live updating.
What are smart playlists?
A smart playlist is one that automatically refreshes itself based on a number of different parameters. To give you an example, consider creating a Loved playlist on Apple Music, which would contain all of the music you have enjoyed in the past. If you enjoy a new song, it will instantly be added to the Loved playlist in your iTunes library. Smart playlists in Miximum are every bit as powerful as those on iTunes. Image courtesy of the Mac Cult. Things, on the other hand, can become far more complicated if you want them to.
Showing just tracks that have never been played before (new music), or songs that have been played more than 50 times but not listened to in the previous two years (songs you used to really like but haven’t heard in a long time) are two examples of how you may customize your playlist.
Miximum satisfies all of these requirements, and you can put them together using some creative reasoning.
For example, you might create a list of songs with a BPM more than 140 and a BPM less than 160. Alternatively, you might create a playlist with all tracks that are not by Insane Clown Posse (side note: why the heck do you have Insane Clown Posse songs in your library?).
How to create a smart playlist in Miximum
Give your playlist a name and a pleasing visual representation. Image courtesy of the Mac Cult. To be quite honest, you don’t really require a how-to guide for this. Simply start the app, press the+ New Mix.button, and follow the on-screen instructions. The first page allows you to give the playlist a name, upload a photo, and choose the scope of the playlist by ticking either All Songs or one or more existing playlists. The second page allows you to edit the playlist by adding or removing songs from it.

All of this is accomplished by drop-down menus, with the option to put in additional information in some parts (such as BPM).
After that, you may play it, sync it (only for pro users), or change it.
Miximum is one of my favorite games. Simple to use, attractive in appearance, robust in functionality, and seamlessly integrated with Apple Music. There are a few anomalies, to be sure. One is that when you press the button to start playing music, the button does not transform into a stop/pause button as it does in most other applications. There is currently no method to halt the playback of the video. To expose a stop button, you must either utilize the native Control Center widget or long-press the Now Playing banner on the screen.

This is a great pity, since in the little time I’ve been using Cs Music, I’ve grown to like its straightforwardness.
If you enjoy what you hear, you should certainly check out Miximum and then purchase Cs Music.
In-app purchases are available for a small fee. Miximum may be obtained via the App Store (iOS)
